Guardians of God's Mission

Are not the angels all ministering spirits (servants) sent out in the service [of God for the assistance] of those who are to inherit salvation? Hebrews 1:14

Ever experienced a sudden rescue that came from out of nowhere? Some think these things happen only by chance. This passage teaches that behind the scenes of life there is a network of angels assigned for protection.

The ministry of angels to believers is a vital teaching in the scripture. These supernatural agents follow their divinely revealed job description. They:

* Provide help in time of need - Hebrews 1:14
* Are sometimes sent by God in answer to prayer - Acts 12:7
* Observe the believer’s response to life - 1 Cor. 4:9; 1 Tim. 5:21; Luke 15:10
* Guide believers to heaven after death - Luke 16:22

"For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth to show
Himself strong in behalf of those whose hearts are blameless toward Him."
2 Chronicles 16:9

I love this, "the eyes of the Lord run to and fro". How busy God is with His Army of Angels He calls upon to go to battle for us. They stand guard, chasing off the angels of darkness that dare to work as if they can thwart God's plan! He's got our backs! Amen!

Some people conclude that these spiritual beings are supposed to protect us from all hurt. But that’s not what the Bible teaches. Jesus Himself said He could have called twelve legions of angels to protect Him (Matthew 26:53). But instead He accepted he help of only one angel and that was to strengthen Him to fulfill His mission of dying on the cross (Luke 22:43). Both Peter and Paul received angelic assistance ranging from deliverance from prison to surviving a shipwreck (Acts 12:7; 27:23-24). But despite these spectacular acts of divine intervention, both were persecuted and finally martyred (2 Peter 1:12-15; 2 Timothy 4:6-8).

So, why have a guardian angel if bad things can happen to you?

They do take action to allow us to complete our mission. But they won’t interfere with trials that God intends to use in molding your character. He uses disappointment and problems to make us more resilient.

“We also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance , character”. Romans 5:3

The assignment of angels is not to make us comfortable but to ensure that we fulfill our mission. Many Lives have been spared miraculously so that God will be glorified and use that person to fulfill God's plan. Next time you have a dangerous “near miss” experience, ask yourself, “What does God have left for me to do?”

God uses trials to make us more like His Son.
